Ms. Tamela
Head of School
In a quest for the next great river paddle and education that nurtures human flourishing, Mills has embraced Montessori since 2004. Love of learning and nature are among Mills’ highest motivators. She is the Chair of the MEPI School Accreditation Commission, a CGMS Instructional Guide for Secondary Educators, and holds Montessori certifications in Primary and Adolescent Levels, a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Purdue University, a master’s in Montessori Leadership from Sarasota University, and a pending Doctoral degree in Curriculum & Instruction at GSU.
Always seeking a better means of support and empowerment of young people, she has worked in a variety of education settings– Lead Guide in three Montessori schools, Education Specialist for Newton County Juvenile Justice Drug Court Program, and Biology instructor for Avondale Learning Co-op.
Before finding Montessori, Mills was the Editor of The Covington News and later the Executive Director for Newton READS Adult Literacy program.
Outside the classroom, Mills has volunteered as a 5-county trainer for Georgia-Adopt-a-Stream and enjoys kayaking, gardening, and spending time with family.
